Everyday without even thinking about it, we place our faith in things that we see. When we flip on the light switch, we have faith electricity will power the light bulb to illuminate the room. When we stop at a red traffic light and proceed at a green one, we have faith that the traffic signal will regulate the flow of traffic and prevent an accident. When we sit down in a chair we have faith that it will hold us up. In instances like these we simply trust in what we see because we have witnessed with our eyes evidence of the outcome.
What do you place your faith in that cannot be seen? Do you trust electricity, radio waves, and gravity to power your electronics, make phone calls, and assist you as you walk? Would this trust be considered “Blind faith”? The world declares these are not blind faith because of a strong foundation of scientific understanding and empirical evidence supporting the principles involved. But is having faith in Jesus and the truth of His word truly blind faith?
In the Bible, the Holy Scriptures, we read in John 20 that one of Jesus’ disciples named Thomas declared he would never believe that Jesus had risen from death to life unless he saw the evidence.
John 20:25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” (ESV)
Eight days after this bold statement by Thomas Jesus appeared to him, proving that He is alive and Thomas declared, “My Lord and my God!”
Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29 (ESV)
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?Jesus declared that He is the Christ, the Son of God and only Savior of the World. He has given us in the Bible His words, providing everything we need for life and godliness. In it He has declared to us the gospel which is good news!
The good news is that all mankind have sinned against the only God, the Creator of the Universe, who is holy and just. As a holy and just God He must punish sin, which brings the penalty of eternal death and damnation in Hell. But in God’s grace and mercy, He sent His Son Jesus to “save His people from their sins” Matthew 1:21.
Jesus bled and died on the cross bearing the wrath of God for the sins of His people and rose again to life on the third day! This finished work of God provides the way for all who have faith in Jesus Christ to be saved from eternal death. Jesus is returning soon, and one day all will see Jesus. It is the day when my faith in Christ will be made sight and I pray that yours will be as well.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Paul
